October 12, 2000
The meeting was called to order at 7:01 by Rod Cox.
Present: Don Clayton, Rodney Cox, Jan Henderson, Rob Henderson, Gen Stoyak, Basia Kawka, and Mickey. There was a quorum.
Absent: Patrick Monagin, Annette Gabriel, Maria Valayil,
After a check in, the agenda was reviewed and two items were added: the Ghost Supper and Election Status
Calendar Review
The only Calendar change was moving the Seers' Guild meeting to November 5 at Isle of Avalon from noon to 2 PM.
Officer Reports
Senior Druid
The Fall Equinox ritual went well despite the rain.
Annette went alone on the Fall Hunt. Rob felt spiritually called to visit some of our sacred sites with Gen. Toad was scheduled to go and changed his mind at the last minute. Rob thinks it may be time to abandon the hunt. Gen enjoyed the day trip. Jan expressed that Annette should not have been placed in a position of going on the Hunt alone. For safety's sake there should be at least 3 people on a Hunt. If people commit to go, they should not wait until the last minute to back out. In the future, it would be a good idea to have a list of people who are committed to going at least 2 weeks ahead of time. If there is not enough interest, the Hunt can be cancelled at that point. Those who commit are promising the community to go. There should not be any last minute changes unless there is a dire emergency. Rod said that we should examine whether the Hunt is doing what we need. Are we contacting the Stag God?
Rob will post a message to the SLG list asking what people want/need from the Grove and whether or not those needs are being met.
Administrator
Rod reported that the Administrator's duties have been light. We don't currently have our own mailbox. The lease on our box has expired. Our mail is being forwarded to the ADF box. Zip codes are changing. We want to get our own box when ADF renews their lease. Rod is looking into getting a box at a Post Office with 24 hour access.
Scribe
There was no Scribe's report. There was no meeting in September due to a lack of quorum.
Outreach Coordinator
Gen is working on a flyer for our Samhain ritual. She will be asking for volunteers to distribute the flyers in Ann Arbor.
Pursewarden
No report
Grove Ecologist and Naturalist Guild
One new person showed up for Bug ID day. Gen helped sort the specimens. The next scheduled Huron Watershed Council event is the Stonefly Search in January.
Chronicler
Basia arrived a little late. Rob thanked her for her 2 years of service to the Grove. A suggestion was made to put information about the Land Fund in a newsletter issue. This may help get donations.
Guild Leader Reports
Seers
Jan gave the report for Maria. The last Guild meeting was very well attended. The next meeting will be November 5 at Isle of Avalon. Future meetings will move to Saturdays and will be held on the East Side at Isle of Avalon. This change in location and day will give more of the members the opportunity to attend. Rob asked if any East Side members might be considering switching to Willow Marsh. To our knowledge the answer is 'No.' Maria gave a presentation on Dream Works at the last meeting.
The Seers will take care of the Omen of Return at both Samhain rituals. Jan thanked the Liturgists for asking early.
Healers
The Healers made a tincture at their last meeting. Rod is going to visit Triskele River to give Reki attunements and to see how they have grown into such a large group. Next month they will practice their Reki.
Warriors
The Guild watched the 13th Warrior and discussed parallels between the move and Beowulf. They identified a number of Indo European themes. There were characters in the movie who symbolize our Gods. Next month's meeting will have as its theme: Show Us Your Blade. The Guild is looking into having a retreat with Triskele River.
Magicians
At the last meeting the Guild went over the ADF Study Program. Everyone is the Guild has done the First Circle items. They need to document this and submit to ADF.
Naturalists
The Dedicants Study Program is being debated in ADF. Under discussion is whether or not the National Guild might be able to grant 'Naturalist' status. The next Guild meeting will be a visit to Mananan's Shrine.
Producers
Craft night was well attended. Salt dough sculptures are an ongoing project. Gen is going to order masks for sale at Samhain Harvest.
Gen will coordinate the potluck at Samhain. Jan volunteered to bring cider and donuts for the day ritual.
The next Guild meeting is on Sunday. The plan is to finish the dough project. Gen would be happy to have some meetings rotate to other homes.
New Business
Offering to the Land at Black Jacks Farm
Jan asked to have this reviewed at the next An Bruane to determine what would be an appropriate way to say 'Thank you' to the land on which the Grove wheat was grown.
Moderated Email List for Event Announcements for Non-Members
It would be good for non-members to have access to email with announcements of upcoming events. The web site is not as efficient as a list would be. The list would be moderated and would be open to non-members. Rob will put a link to join the list on the web page. Events will be posted to both the member SLG list and the non-member list.
Samhain Harvest
Rob has pricing information indicating the fee for a table is $50. The Producers Guild has items to sell. The Grove has information to distribute. Don made a motion, second by Basia to get a table. Motion passed.
Ghost Supper
Jan asked that those attending respect the mules' space by staying out of the barn. She asked that the downstairs area and the bedrooms be left private.
Election Status
Ballots went out a little late. There will be a 3 and a half week turnaround not the usual 4 weeks. Bio information is required of all candidates. Rob asked all candidates to post their information to the list as soon as possible. In addition to snail mail, members may vote by either email or phone. Votes should be sent to Annette, Rod or Rob. There was a bit of confusion about membership renewals. There is a 3 month grace period for payment of dues. As long as dues are paid by November 1, members may vote in the election. They must be members of both ADF and SLG.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45.
Respectfully submitted,
Jan
